Triumph Motorcycles brought their cross-continental Brutal Beauty Tour to Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre earlier this month, where along with several hundred excited riders and amid a flurry of activity from the invited barbers, tattoo artists, pin-stripers, DJ, and a performance by the Road Hammers, we got our first chance to get up close with three of their new 2017 models.
The focus of the debut was the all-new Bobber. Based around the engine of the 1200cc Bonneville, the Bobber draws direct influence from what people have been doing to motorbikes since the 1940s—it’s a trick, custom-inspired machine that marries modern performance with classic design. It’s great to see a major manufacturer paying attention to the custom scene and the Bobber seems like a wicked platform for further customization.
We also got our first look at the new Street Scrambler, centered around the High Torque 900cc Street Twin power plant. The bike is a major refinement of Triumph’s previous 865cc Scrambler and, like the Bobber, the fit and finish, along with the ability to further customize the bike, is really appealing. Triumph bikes have long been great canvasses for personalization and their 2017 lineup, focusing on improved modern performance and classic styling continues to build on that heritage.
The third model to check out was the all-new 2017 Street Triple. The Street Triple set the benchmark for the middleweight naked/street-fighter segment and the 2017 model ratchets things up a couple notches. First off, it’s gorgeous. It looks and sounds like a whole pile of fun and we can’t wait to try one out on the road. The biggest change is the new 765 three-cylinder engine, along with a host of structural and electronic upgrades, across the three distinct models – S, R, and RS.
It’s nice to get together and ogle some new bikes, it helps to break up a long winter with some good food and drinks and plan for those warm weather moto adventures to come. If you’re in BC on March 11th and you want to check out the 2017 Triumph lineup, head over to fortheadventure.com and sign up!
